Oto no Miidera is a performing arts event held at Miidera Temple, where waka poetry, music, and contemporary composition come together in a new sensory experience. Set within a site shaped by more than 1,300 years of history, the event creates a dialogue between tradition and modernity, inviting audiences into a more immersive and borderless way of listening.

Visual identity, event materials, social media

  • The visual identity was developed to express sound as something living, fluid, and immersive. Rather than representing music in a fixed or literal way, the direction aimed to evoke the way sound moves through space, blending, expanding, and dissolving into the atmosphere like notes in motion.

  • Forms and gradients were used to suggest the movement of sound as it fills the air, ethereal and alive. The identity was designed to echo the event itself: borderless, sensory, and open, where poetry, music, and place continuously respond to one another.

  • The palette moves through deep green, ethereal purple, and hints of blue, drawing from the mysterious atmosphere of the forest surrounding the temple. In this context, green evokes stillness and elegance, while purple carries associations of spirituality and richness of mind within Japanese culture. Together, these tones create a visual mood that feels both grounded and transcendent.
