Kiyome is a contemporary body care line inspired by zukou - 塗香, a traditional Japanese powdered incense applied directly to the body rather than burned. Created from a blend of aromatic woods and herbal ingredients, it releases its scent through body heat. This project reinterprets that tradition in a more accessible, modern format through a line of everyday care products built around notes commonly used in Japanese incense.

Brand identity, label and packaging design
-
The starting point for Kiyome was the idea of cleansing through scent. Rather than approaching care as something purely functional, the project looked at the sensory and cultural role of fragrance in Japanese tradition, especially through zukō. This became the foundation for a body care line that connects gesture and mind through scent.
-
Drawing from kamon - 家紋, traditional Japanese emblems, the identity uses a set of simplified symbols linked to the scent blend. Each emblem refers to an ingredient traditionally used in Japanese incense, turning the fragrance profile into a graphic system rather than an illustrative one. This gives the blend a direct role in the identity while grounding the project in a historical Japanese visual reference.

The visual identity was developed to balance this historical source with a more contemporary packaging approach. Clean typography, simple layouts, and a restrained structure give the system clarity, while the emblem set creates rhythm and distinction across the range. Warm gradients and layered botanical forms echo the dry, woody character of the scent blend and bring softness to the overall composition.
