Created to mark the 20th anniversary of the Kyoto art gallery JARFO, this small-batch rosé label was developed around the concept 藝際間 - Gei Kiwa Awai. Rather than describing art as a fixed object, the title evokes the subtle space that forms around it: the edge of perception, the interval of time, and the relationship between artwork and viewer.

Label design

  • The concept draws on the layered meanings of Gei Kiwa Awai. Together, they suggest not only art and artistic skill, but also threshold, moment, distance, and the space of relation. In that sense, awai is not only physical space, but also emotional distance, timing, atmosphere, and the invisible tension that exists between people and things. The identity was developed to hold that ambiguity visually, somewhere between presence and absence, connection and pause.

  • The pink hue was preserved as a direct expression of the rosé itself, then shifted toward a more contemporary tone through color treatment and composition. Fine thread-like lines were used to suggest the spaces and connections that exist between people, time and art, giving form to something usually unseen.

  • The linear motif echoes the Japanese belief of invisible threads linking one presence to another, rather than illustrating art literally, the design focuses on relationship: between viewer and work, between one moment and the next, and between separate elements held in subtle balance.
